Authentic Filipino Food in Riyadh: Dining at Kubo Food Haus

A Filipino Hug, Served on a Plate

Our recent trip to Riyadh wasnโ€™t just about errands, it was about family. My mom and I had travelled in to visit my sister, who had recently started working in the city. It was one of those visits where we simply wanted to check in, see how she was settling in, and share a meal together.

To make it feel even more like home, we decided to eat at a Filipino restaurant called Kubo Food Haus, and the moment we walked in, it felt like we never left the Philippines.

An Interior That Felt Like the Islands

The space was warm, cozy, and unmistakably Pinoy. The wooden chairs, capiz-inspired accents, and flowered curtains showed the aesthetic of a classic Filipino โ€œkuboโ€ (nipa hut). It reminded me of family gatherings back home, the kind with lots of food, laughter, and someone playing karaoke in the background.

What We Ordered: A Bite of Nostalgia

We had crispy fried chicken, boneless fish, and a spicy chilli-based dish (though I wish I remembered its exact name!). Each bite was full of flavor and warmth, the kind of food that doesnโ€™t just fill your stomach but tugs at your heart, too.

Thereโ€™s something about eating your countryโ€™s cuisine while abroad that makes you feel grounded. The dishes were familiar yet comforting in a way that said, โ€œYouโ€™re not too far from home.โ€
