Epic 4-Day Escape to Coron: A Family Voyage
March 14, 2019

After months of being away from each other due to work, our family finally had the chance to reconnect, and we chose the paradise of Coron, Palawan as our reunion destination. Known for its turquoise lagoons, dramatic limestone cliffs, and rich marine life, Coron has become one of the top travel gems in the Philippines.
Our adventure began with a flight from Clark, Pampanga to Busuanga Airport in Coron. The moment we landed, the island welcomed us with warm sunshine and calm island energy.

Day 1: From Prayers to Peaks to Hot Springs
We started the day with a simple breakfast at our cozy accommodation before heading out for our first tour.
Our first stop was St. Augustine Church, one of the oldest religious structures in Coron. After a quiet moment of prayer, we wandered into a nearby souvenir shop where local crafts and trinkets tempted our wallets.
Next, we challenged ourselves to a climb up Mount Tapyas, known for its panoramic views of Coron town. The 700+ steps were no joke, but reaching the summit and seeing the iconic “CORON” sign made every drop of sweat worth it.
Our tired legs found relief at Maquinit Hot Springs, one of the few natural saltwater hot springs in the country. Surrounded by mangroves and the sea breeze, soaking in the steaming waters felt like a reward for the day’s efforts.
Dinner was an adventure in itself. At Kawayanan Grill Station, we tried exotic dishes for the first time—crocodile sisig and Coron express octopus. Surprisingly, they were delicious and not as intimidating as we expected.
Day 2: Crystal Lakes and Coral Gardens
After breakfast, our day continued with a boat trip to one of Coron’s crown jewels—Kayangan Lake. The view from the lookout point above the lake was absolutely postcard-perfect, and the swim in its clear, cool waters was pure bliss.
We stopped at CYC Beach for lunch—a small yet peaceful island with powdery white sand.
The afternoon was filled with snorkeling at Green Lagoon and the vibrant Las Islas de Corales. Every underwater glance offered something new—corals in bright colors, darting fish, and the occasional sea cucumber.
We capped off the day with dinner at Sky Restaurant, where we indulged in seafood rice and sushi, while watching the town slowly light up for the night.
Day 3: Wreck Diving and Island Hopping
Day three was all about uncovering more of Coron’s hidden treasures. Our first stop was Barracuda Lake, known for its thermocline layers that shift between hot and cold as you swim.
The highlight of the day was definitely snorkeling around the Skeleton Wreck, a sunken Japanese ship from World War II now transformed into an artificial reef teeming with marine life.
Our island-hopping continued to Twin Lagoon, Reef Garden, and Smith Beach—each offering its own slice of tropical heaven.
Dinner that evening was spent at Karl’s BBQ, where we enjoyed grilled specialties and treated ourselves to steak for our final island night.
Day 4: Farewell, Coron
On our last morning, we woke up early to pack and prepare for our departure. As the plane ascended, we looked out the window one last time—taking in the green hills and turquoise waters—grateful for the memories we created.
Final Thoughts
Coron gave us more than just a break from routine—it offered reconnection, wonder, and experiences we’ll never forget. From mountain hikes and hot springs to sunken wrecks and island feasts, each day brought something new.
If you’re planning a tropical escape with your family, Coron is a must-add to your bucket list.
