A Spontaneous Escape from the City
Finally, after weeks of mismatched schedules, my friend and I found ourselves with the same day off. Without hesitation, we decided on a road trip—an escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Just a 30-minute drive later, we arrived in Ipswich, a peaceful and relaxing retreat away from Brisbane’s fast-paced life.
Ipswich Nature Centre: Up Close with Australian Wildlife
With no fixed itinerary, we headed straight to the Ipswich Nature Centre, unsure of what to expect. To our delight, it was open that day, and even better—entrance was free! Donations, of course, were appreciated. 😊
The centre, open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM (closed on Christmas and Good Friday), is home to more than 40 species of Australian wildlife. We encountered Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Greater Bilbies, Spotted-tailed Quolls, and even the endangered Brush-Tailed Rock Wallaby. Some enclosures were empty, but overall, the centre was well-maintained.
One amusing moment stood out—seeing live chickens and cows in Australia for the first time! Back home, chickens roamed freely in our backyard, but here, they were part of an enclosed exhibit. The experience was even more exciting when I saw a Wallaby and a Greater Bilby for the first time. Learning about their origins and hearing stories, like that of “Mirrigin,” the wedge-tailed eagle, made the visit even more meaningful.
A Moment of Tranquility at the Glasshouse
After leaving the Nature Centre, we stumbled upon the Glasshouse, just a few meters away. Though it was closed that day, we took the opportunity to relax in its serene surroundings. Birds chirped, bees buzzed around vibrant flowers, and the fresh air made it a perfect spot to unwind. Sitting there, taking in the tranquility, felt like a rare luxury.
Discovering the Unexpected: Summer Land Camels
As we searched for our next destination, we came across Summer Land Camels, a farm just 30 minutes away. The thought of camels in Australia surprised me—I had always associated them with deserts in the Middle East! Having previously lived in Saudi Arabia, I had long dreamed of riding a camel but never had the chance. This was my moment! 😊
Excitement surged through me as we arrived, greeted by a herd of camels at the entrance. My friend, on the other hand, was less thrilled—he half-joked about them biting our heads off!
Inside, we decided to embrace the experience and go for a camel ride. Though nervous at first, we quickly realized it was completely safe, with guides ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride. The only minor inconvenience? The persistent flies that wouldn’t leave us alone! Despite that, crossing this off my bucket list was a fulfilling moment. Yay!
🧺Bucket List #114: Ride a camel
Beyond the camel rides, the farm also offers tours, milk and cheese tasting, and a farm shop selling beauty and skincare products made from camel milk. Their café/restaurant serves meals featuring camel meat—but we weren’t quite ready for that adventure yet. Maybe next time!

A Floral Paradise: Scenic Rim Farm Shop and Café
As a flower enthusiast, I searched for a flower farm nearby and found Scenic Rim Farm Shop and Café. With our stomachs rumbling, it was the perfect final stop before heading back.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a majestic tree and an open seating area, exactly the kind of cozy atmosphere I dream of having in my future home. 😊 The farm shop offered an array of gift products and an enticing menu. Unfortunately, the chef was unavailable that day, so only cakes and drinks were available. Still, we enjoyed the ambiance and sweet treats.
Adjacent to the café was the Elder Flower Farm, selling fresh and dried flowers, vases, and other charming gifts. Strolling through the blooming garden, taking photos, and admiring the floral beauty was a highlight of the day.

Wrapping Up the Day
As the sun began to set, we hopped back into the car for the hour-long drive home. The trip was short but filled with unforgettable memories—an experience that left us eager to return and explore more of Ipswich.
